Interview with codeman:
I had the opportunity to give codeman, the man who discovered that the I-Opener could be modified like this, an interview.

The Interview:

Q: What drove you to hack the I-Opener in this manor, not many people would
have thought of such things.

codeman: well i seen it at cc and look at the back and poped off the memory cover and
seen a sodimm a guessed it was a pc

Q: What was the biggest channel involved with hacking your I-Opener.

codeman: the ide port . it took about 2 hours to get it to boot after getting it home..

Q: How did you figure out that the IDE header was mirroed?

codeman: after i pluged in a straight thu cable and it wold not power on i found the 44pin diag and followed the voltage and ground pins and also the sandisk docs helped

Q: Do you think that with the mass influx of Linux users buying these units NetPliance will take a significant financial loss, blame the fall on Linux users and give the community a bad name?

codeman: i hope not this was just a little hack to have a small linux box they had to
know it would be done ?? i hope?

Q: With Linux growing popularity at an alarming rate, where do you see linux headed in the future?

codeman: heading everywhere even in you fridge

Q: What other types of hardware hacks like this do you see in the future with
cheap computing devices.

codeman: well once the ce stuff gets going that will be a big one. that might be the
next one for me the hp jornada 820

Q: What other types of hardware modifications have you done

codeman: you name it, if it can be reprogramed i will try to reprogram it.

Q: Thanks for your time codeman, anything else you would like to add?

codeman: just hope i dont get sued !!
