Fw: Landscape Ballots - Invalid Ballot

GEMS-1-15-2

Landscape Ballots
Currently, the only text on the full printing template is at the bottom indicating front and back with Id"s.  Easily understood by the printer in portrait mode.

My suggestion is to have TOP and BOTTOM in the appropriate places and maybe arrows indicating "this side up".

Currently, when the text appears on the edge of the ballot in landscape it is very easy to reverse the images and make a mistake.  I believe the printer would look at the text on the front of the ballot in portrait mode the same way you would look at a dollar bill and mark top and bottom and do the same to the back side, providing there was text on the back and make sure the bottom on both sides matched and the text was not reversed.  The same as a dollar bill.

In this version the printed ballot does not match the programmed voting positions.

The amount of white space from the question candidate and the bottom line is different than the white space for the last race candidate.  The candidate bottom line is very (too) close to the vertical oval.

Holding the ballot my first instinct was to flip it short side instead of long.  I'll rotate the back image 180 degrees.

I am going to reneg on this.  I have shown Greg's ballot around the office, and its unclear which is the "right" way to flip it -- by long or short side.  Right now it is along the long side, just because that is the way that GEMS and the AccuVote see it (1).  It turns out to be a royal pain to rotate the back 180, so I am going to let the current behavior stand for now.

Ian suggested a "turn ballot over" hand icon that points down instead of the right.  That is a good idea.  I'll rotate the current image and add it to the GEMS distribution.
