Open Source Freedom 2.0 Client for Linux

Zero-Knowledge® is pleased to announce the open source release of its Freedom® client for Linux. The source code available below is everything that users need to build a complete Freedom client capable of interacting with the Freedom Network®.

Linux Client

You should be aware that not all of the client's functionality is available for free; premium services such as pseudonymous Web browsing and pseudonymous email functionality require paid access to the Freedom Network. See http://www.freedom.net/info/linux.html for more information about these premium services.

  • License
The client source code (with the exception of the kernel shim and separate modules such as Yarrow) are licensed under the terms and conditions of the Mozilla Public License version 1.1. The kernel shim, our implementation of Yarrow, and included 3rd-party libraries are licensed under different licenses. More information about these licenses are available on the individual project pages and in the source code.

  • Build Instructions
Building the Linux client is unfortunately not totally trivial. Developers wishing to compile the client may need to upgrade parts of their toolchain; for your convenience, we have provided links to compiler RPMs that we use internally. Information about how to build the client is available here.

  • Use
Once you've produced client binaries, you'll find them in the arch/linux-2.2-ix86/Release/bin or Debug/bin directory, depending on how you configured your build. The 'clientshim.o' binary is the kernel module, and 'freedom' is the client itself. Inserting the module and running 'freedom' is all that's required to start the client.

  • Feedback
Zero-Knowledge encourages users to provide feedback regarding the Freedom client's source code. For feedback instructions click here.
