This is admittedly without any research into the facts and various press
releases, etc. But why shouldn't we suspect that Adobe didn't know
there'd be an uproar, and that their response would be exactly as it
was -- knowing full well that an Ashcroft Justice Department might well
be inclined to proceeed anyway. This could be face-saving disingenuity,
with malice aforethought, of class A proportions.
