Jeff,
I think you've got to ask what on the AVTS failed? Then
if they say the internal memory, TAB or Ian should be able to give you the MTBF
of that device. Per Ken's joke, look at the MTBF of both items and then
ask ken to figure the odds of both failing. That should put you into the 1
in NNNNNNNNN chance of their scenario happening. Hopefully that will
satisfy them. Touch screen is playing the odds. Ken's bet is that
one of our customers will be a "winner" during his tenure. Maybe he's
right.....

Subject: RE: Election Results recovery
when both PCMCIA & AVTS unit fail
All good
information. I have been through all these processes with them for these
cases.
The
question is: What if the PCMCIA card and AVTS unit have both failed before any
results had been printed or sent to GEMS???
Jeff
Refer to
section 9.10.5 Restoring results in the AccuVote-TS User's Guide for
information on restoring results from AccuVote-TS backup media if the PCMCIA
card only fails. If the unit only fails, the card is available for
use. If both are damaged beyond repair, print reports provide a record
of votes cast if they have been printed, otherwise, results for the
precinct(s) counted on the unit should be available from GEMS provided
results have been uploaded. If multiple units are used for counting at
the polling location, results tabulated onto the remaining units' paper
tapes should be deducted from GEMS election results for the polling
location.

Thanks
for the info Ken, I will pass this on to Johnson County,
KS.
Jeff
Put your
head between your legs and...
Ken
If by some chance, both the PCMCIA card is
damaged or fails and the AVTS is damaged or fails. What would be
the procedure to get the results from that PCMCIA card or AVTS
unit???
This was a
question that Johnson County, KS wanted an answer
to.
Thanks,
JEFF
