RE: Cards Cast, Ballots Cast, and Times Counted

These three things are similar, but subtly different.

Cards Cast and Ballots Cast are different from one another only if the
jurisdiction has two-card ballots. Two-card ballots are more the exception
than the rule (my regards to those of you who support elections "out West"
i.e. Colorado, Arizona, California, Washington, etc.), therefore Cards Cast
and Ballots Cast are often interchangeable.

Times Counted means the number of times that the race in question was read
by an Accu-Vote (whether it had a valid vote or not). If the race is
jurisdiction-wide (on all ballots), then the times counted for the race
should match the Ballots Cast. If the race is not jurisdiction wide and
does not appear on all ballots/cards, then the Times Counted could be
different from Ballots Cast.

Clear as mud?

Beth Kish has just completed a re-count and she has some questions. What
are the differences between Cards Cast, Ballots Cast, and Times Counted in
the reports.
