RE: AVTS - Multiple write-in lines for group of candidates
Within
the old I-Mark software, by having a flag within the race for multiple choices
per voting position, when you voted the Write-In choice, then depending on the
number you put in for the multiple choices, the write-in dialog window would
continue for each choice you defined. It would indicate for you to enter
the write-in for the first choice, then after you touched the Record Write-In
button, the write-in dialog would pop up again and prompt you to enter the
write-in for the second choice, and so on, until you have come to your defined
number of choices.
Within
the old I-Mark software, by having a flag within the race for multiple choices
per voting position. Once you define the number of choices, then within
the adding of candidates, it would prompt you to add each and every candidate
depending on the number of choices defined. So, in the case of defining 2
choices, a Vote Box would be next to each of the group of 2 candidates you
define. As for the write-in, there would be 2 write-in lines next to the
Vote Box.
There
is only one counter allocated per group of candidate
choices.
I am
not exactly sure how we need to be change the race editor. But
probably some flag as described above, for multiple choices per voting position,
and the candidate entry to allocate that number accordingly.
If you
want, I can find an I-Mark election that has a definition with multiple
choices and do screen shots of how it works with the I-Mark software.
Also, I can print out the reports & paper ballots of how the I-Mark software
does it.
As for
this happening for the Mahoning County, OH election, coming up on
November 7th, I would not worry about it.
Following up on
the support list for a moment for discussion. Jeff, please describe the
IMARK functionality, and how you would like this provided by GEMS and the AVTS
rewrite. Does the write-in screen just magically pop up multiple times,
or are votes somehow told what they are supposed to do with each screen?
What does it mean to have have two choices for a voting position that is
not a writein? Are two counters allocated? What
changes do you want made to the race editor and/or GEMS reports?
Does it have any application for paper ballots?
Ken
I am currently
programming a trial election for Mahoning County, Ohio. On the
Presidential race, both the
President and Vice President are grouped together
as one voting position. However,
the write-in voting position needs to
come up with 2 write-in lines and 2 seperate write-ins, one for the President and then one for the Vice
President. Within the old I-Mark software, there was an option for the number of choices per
voting position. When you
increased that number to 2 or more, and also had a write-in defined for that race, then when you voted for the write-in, it would prompt
you for the first write-in choice, then the second write-in choice and so
on, until it reached the number of choices you defined for that
race.
Again this is for their November
election. I am not sure if we can get by with just the single write-in, and put
in both names at that time.
However, this will be something that will come up for other customers in
the future as
well.
