Re: carriage return in @precinct

GBS need to print precinct, ward and district on the ballot.  These three items are currently defined in the base precinct name, but can obviously only be formatted with spaces in the label field.  The contents of the precinct name require a more appropriate appearance on the ballot, however, thus the request for the incorporation of the carriage return.  The inclusion of the three entities in the precinct name is messy, although it is apparently necessitated by their election architecture .

I had already discussed with them the possibility of an @district macro, however, the district reference would be ambiguous and printing all districts which contain the base precinct is not desirable, either.

Are you implying that you (plural) are intending on moving towards a Word-style full rich text edit?  If so, when would this be implemented?

GBS would like the printing of the base precinct using the @precinct macro to incorporate carriage returns triggered by some control character in the base precinct label.  The control character is only to be displayed in the base precinct editor and the tree and list views but no reports or ballots.

I think we would have to go with full rich text attachments for precincts (and probably by extension districts) to do this.  Trying to deal with control character hacks all over the place would make a serious mess.  Going to rich text would be a big deal, and probably not worth it without some other application for the change.

What is the motivation here?  Perhaps we can solve the problem another way.  Give an example.  Is it just formatting?
