Subject: RE: RCR - VIBS Write-In
Vote
Here a proposal for handling
write-ins from Phil Scruggs and Steve Carrow of Soza fame. Wanted to
get it out there for comment from the CA folks at least. While it
comes across as a little unwieldy, it seems about as reasonable as it is
going to get to me at least, and has the distinction of being the
only solution that has been seriously proposed.
This is
complete. The user interface is basically as Phil/Steve outlined, with
some details worked out. The only major difference is that the
'0' key is used to accept the current character rather than the '#'
key. There isn't much point in a "review selection" key since the
current selection is always part of the instructions being played to the
voter. It also avoids the "double # to accept" unpleasantness.
Anyway, the intent is that the user interface be self explanatory. Try
it out and follow up with any
suggestions.
The
instruction files were just created with text-to-speech right now.
They'll need to be re-recorded professionally, and translated to
Spanish. We are not wed to the specific script, so if you can
improve on it feel free.
Whomever is
testing this for CA contact me directly and I'll get you a pre-release and the
new audio instruction files. Once testing is complete we'll fold it into
the mainline.
