Re: reject writeins using feeders

My primary concern on a company wide basis is release levels.  Is this entire discussion only relevant if the customer has 1.94y ROMS (or higher)?  If so, then most customers would have GEMS and item 3 would seem optimal.  Item 2 seems undesireable under any circumstance due to the inability to change settings without reloading cards.  Item one seems the easiest and not that big a problem since you can change it and save it to the memory card anyway.  Item 1 and 3 provide (do they not?) the ability to sort write-ins in the precinct, but not during feeder attachment.  That is the key.

Currently 1.94y will prompt for sorting when you select feeder mode so speak up if you feel strongly that it would be better to use this download option.

The options:

1) Use an AV setup mode option to enable sorting when feeder mode is selected.

Pros:
- you can change the setting after download.  This means that if you find that you are getting too many write-ins, you could sort them out and run them through a unit with the sorting disabled so it doesn't stop on every one.
- this option is saved on memory cards with the other setup mode options.
- different AVs can be set up differently.
- compatible with all GEMS and VTS versions.

Cons:
- you need to decide whether or not you want sorting (i.e. stopping) whenever you select feeder mode.
- possible to make entry mistakes.

2) Download the CC sort flag from GEMS to control feeder sorting.

Pros:
- central administration.
- no need to set this on the AV's.
- no mistakenly wrong settings on the AV.

Cons:
- no way to change your mind after download.
- requires recent GEMS release.

3) Download the CC sort flag AND have an option to override this in the AV setup mode.

Pros:
- almost as simple as (2) but with the flexibility of (1)???

Cons:
- possible to make entry mistakes.
- requires recent GEMS release.
