Steve,
GEMS has the following fields
for tracking memory cards:
MID: (Machine
ID) This is the machine identifier within the vote center, eg. machine 1, 2, 3,
etc.
Version:
This is the version number of the data that has been downloaded to the memory
card. It is incremented each time a new or different set of data (ie. set of
races, candidates, ballot layout, etc) is downloaded to a memory
card.
Copy: This is
the copy number of the downloaded data. It is re-set to 0 when the version
number is incremented, and incremented on each subsequent download.
The AccuVote-OS, for historical
reasons, does not have a field to store the GEMS MID, nor GEMS Copy in, so these
are encoded in the vote center Id. On the AccuVote-OS the
Copy number is the number to time the memory has been copied on
the AccuVote-OS and has no relation the the GEMS Copy number. At some
point we will try to get the AccuVote-OS to separate out the GEMS MID and Copy
fields so this will be come clearer.
Hope this answered your
questions.
