RE: Write-in vote cancel buttons 0 vs *

That's not a bad suggestion.  One could make the argument though that the confirm sequence would be just as annoying as pressing 5 to get back into the write-in dialog after overshooting.

I hope that the introduction of your keypad with the # key will allow for some key rearrangement and some of these issues will just go away.  I would really prefer to just hear a "thunk" sound when the user "hits the end", rather than having them go through some confirm sequence.

Ken,

What about a message at the end of the chain, something like "pressing the  ' * ' KEY again will cancel the write in candidate, are you sure?" then :To continue voting your write in candidate.... etc.

Quick follow up for the record on this:  One thing I really don't like about this star business is that if the voter wants to delete a bunch of letters and start over, it is now really easy to overshoot and cancel the write-in inadvertently.  I am not at all convinced that these Florida changes are an improvement.

Fix in 4.1.9:  pressing 0 when there are no characters is now a no-op.

Ballot Station 4.1.8
Good Scenario
After typing, via keypad, any letter of candidate name the ' * ' key will be active and cancel the write in candidate.

Problem Scenario
No letter of the candidate name has been entered.
The ' 0 ' key is active and cancels the write in candidate.

The audio still is identifying the  ' * ' key.
