I am not at the customer site now, however,
Dmitry suggested I delete the combination of numbers in the ballot printer
section through regedit as you suggested but no joy.
He then suggested I try each of the printers as the
default printer and try to generate. No success.
He then suggested I re-install. Unfortunately
I did not have a CD with me. When I did install last week, I used 1-17-5-1
and upgraded the Gems.exe to 1-17-11. Had the same error code in both
versions.
The GEMS-1-17-11 CD should arrive today or tomorrow
and I will re-install as Dmitry suggested.
I do use Windows 2000 on desktop and laptop and
upgraded both to SP1. I do not know if the customers PC has the SP1 but I
assume so. They have a dedicated IT guy.

Ballots, GEMS 1-17-11
Okay, now this is more interesting. Please try to
maintain the subject line for what is (obviously) the same bug. Works
here and with Mike, but not with Greg, so it seems. Try this. In
the registry editor go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Global Election Systems/GEMS
Delete the BallotPrinter entry entirely. Does that fix
the internal error?
