OFFICIAL SAYS VOTING MACHINES REPAIRED
The general counsel for the state Department of Elections and Registrations said Wednesday problems with the new touch-screen voting machines in Ascension and Tangipahoa parishes are resolved and the machines should function properly for the Dec. 7 election.
Juliet E. Thompson of the Department of Elections said the machines overheated during the Nov. 5 general election because "there was a shield that did not get put on during the manufacturing process."
However, Tangipahoa Clerk of Court John Dahmer said some machines that shut down during the last election did have the shield. He said the manufacturer's belated installation of the shields may not solve the problem.
